Bringing the Farmers Market to the Food Bank
Turning your donations into nutritious vegetables on the dinner plates of those who need it most
Step 1: Decide what amount you can comfortably donate
Step 2: We grow the food
Step 3: We donate the fresh produce to the Food Bank on your behalf
Step 4: Together we increase food security for our local community
Why Donate?
Invest in a local food system- Food insecurity is on the rise. It is estimated that 1 in 10 people over the age of 12 in Canada are currently experiencing food insecurity
Help protect farmland from development- Much of B.C.'s farmland is quickly being turned into mansions. By donating to my farm specifically, you are ensuring that this farmland keeps being farmed in a sustainable way.
Receive a genuine thank you!- For every level of donation we have a little thank you sent your way. From an email saying what was donated, to a copy of the little bee book zine I co-created, there are lots of rewards to be had!
Provide delicious, nutritious food to the Food Bank- Let's feed our community good, nutritious food!
Support a small business- Instead of your money going to a large company or corporation, it is going to individuals who are reinvesting that money in your local community
The Story
The idea of donating food came after multiple conversations with people about increasing concerns over food security. People who are pillars in their community began worrying that they may not be able to feed their families. The heart break of these heavy conversations accompanied with understanding the stigmas that still surround asking for help made me want to be a part of the solution. I want people who are using the food bank to eat tomatoes that actually taste like tomatoes. I want those people to feel valued and nourished. What makes donating through my farm even more exciting is that instead of money going to large corporations that own the food usually donated, you are supporting a small business. Not only that, but a small business that is help preserving farm land that is very quickly disappearing. By donating through our farm you are helping keep farmland from being developed into mansions, and allowing food to be grown in a way that is kinder to the environment.
