The Naturally Good Vibes farm is a small scale farm with sustainable practices and currently is in two locations: one in Langley, the other in Burnaby. While the farm itself is constantly evolving, the goals stay the same. Be as zero waste as possible, support the health of the earth, and grow some amazing food! Everything is grown over 2 acres, while leaving space for pollinators to flourish with spaces left undisturbed. All seeds are chosen with the safety of pollinators in mind, and are pesticide, herbicide, and GMO free.
Ever since I can remember, I have had a strong passion for nature and conservation. Throughout my life this has taken me on many adventures from swimming with sharks all over the world, to graduating from farm school in beautiful British Columbia. It was during farm school that I was able to get my hands in a beehive regularly, and really close a lot of the holes that I often found in conservation. Working with the seasons and using natural methods to control pests encourages me to think differently and outside the box and to be more connected to nature. To get your hands on some juicy tomatoes that are ripened on the vine, check out the store tab!
FAQ Why do I need to pay for all of my produce upfront? A CSA program is a really unique experience that allows the farmer security. By the farmer having financial security it allows them to invest in purchasing seeds, compost, and other inputs for the season without taking the initial hit. It is also a great way to participate in supporting your local economy as more money stays in your community as opposed to using larger banks etc.
Is your farm organic? There are lots of new labels popping up with small scale farming on the rise, but the short answer is no! While I use a lot of organic practices, farming on lease land makes it almost impossible to become certified. Certification is something that takes years, and while I greatly respect those who pursue it, it is not right for my situation. I do however use organic seeds, and compost as my main growing means. I also have a pest management strategy where the toughest thing I spray on the plants is soap. As a beekeeper and someone who is in love with pollinators and the planet in general, I try very much so to align my practices with my values.
Your farm sounds amazing! Can I come visit? Potentially! While I love connecting people with their food, as someone who basically farms alone my time spent on the farm is very valuable! I am however excited to welcome volunteers for things like weeding where we can talk about growing food all day. In the future I may have days where people can come to the farm, or events on the farm. If you want to be kept in the loop join my newsletter at the bottom of this page!
Do I get a refund if something happens? This is a complicated question as it depends on what happens. In past years this has never been an issue. As we all learned from 2020 though, anything can happen, and so unfortunately due to the nature of farming and being one farmer who relies on the income, everything will be done to prevent situations that would require a refund, but refunds are not available.
Will I get to choose my vegetables? Part of the fun of a produce box is the surprise of the variety every week! The idea behind a local produce box is that you get to enjoy an abundance of what the season has to offer. That said, if you are allergic or have a vegetable you just can't stand, talk to us before you purchase your produce box and we will see if we can accommodate you!
